Alcorn Extension Launches New Initiative

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Alcorn State University Extension Program (ASUEP) will be launching a new campaign entitled, “Ask Extension” during the basketball games against Jackson State University slated for 3:00 p.m. (Lady Braves) and 5:00 p.m. (Braves) in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex on Alcorn’s Lorman campus.

According to Dr. Gregory Reed, interim extension administrator, the event will consist of various activities to spread the word about “Ask Extension” as well as to encourage support of athletic events.

“The Extension program is using the populous of this game to encourage people to contact us to receive beneficial information and to address their concerns. If a citizen has a question that we can’t answer, we will bring in experts from other agencies to help address their inquiry,” Reed said.

During the games, a banner will be showcased in the foyer of the Whitney Complex portraying the various facets of the “Ask Extension” concept. A display table will also be set up depicting the program’s events and activities, fact sheets, sample materials, and products from the ASUEP’s four programmatic areas.

The event will feature a demonstration of a bike which generates nutritious shakes when peddled, and giveaways of purple sports towels (which the cheerleaders will incorporate into a routine) depicting the Extension logo, the “Ask Extension” statement, among other pertinent information.

Two bicycles will also be given away during the half time shows of each game as part of our Health and Wellness initiative.

“Our programs can be used to change the perspectives of people when they use our tools effectively,” Reed said.

Through the establishment of the “Ask Extension” concept, the end-user will have access to the most current and vital information that the ASUEP can provide.
