Alcorn State University Concert Choir performs at the Extension Program’s annual Holiday Affair held recently in Port Gibson, Mississippi.
Residents of Port Gibson and Claiborne County had a chance to partake in the Alcorn State University Extension Program annual Holiday Affair held November 18, 2015 in the Claiborne County Multipurpose Center.
Participants received information on financial management and being safe during the holidays, participated in healthy holiday cooking demonstrations as well as received free giveaways and door prizes.
The program included presentations from the Claiborne County District Attorney’s Office, Extension staff and community leaders. The participants also received tips on the dangers of using tobacco and how to stay tobacco-free.
“I enjoyed the Holiday Affair very much,” says Octavia Odom, a Claiborne County resident. “I volunteered and assisted Alcorn Extension with the program as I have done for the past few years. It seems to get better each year.”
According to Port Gibson resident Twyvesia Shorter, “Every facet was informative and had information that we all can benefit from. I especially liked the wreath making portion. I will be most definitely be using what I learned at home this holiday season. I look forward to this event next year and others like it.”
Alcorn’s Concert Choir member Jada Brown came to the event to perform with the choir.
“Among other things, I learned about identity theft, which is something I really haven’t thought about being a college student. We also had an opportunity to visit vendor tables and the best part was performing for the crowd. It got everybody in the holiday spirit!” says Brown.
The event concluded with a holiday lunch and remarks by Dr. Gregory Reed, assistant director of Extension. Reed thanked the adult audience for coming out and being a part of the Alcorn Extension festivities and wished everybody happy and safe holidays.
