Junior class host charity initiative
The junior class at Alcorn State University is hosting a charity event for the less fortunate in the surrounding areas.
Rodrick Patterson, junior class president and agronomy plant and soil science major, along with Miss Junior, Seqouia Smith and the junior class started their Purse of Purpose (P.O.P) charity event earlier this month. The purpose of their initiative is to supply less fortunate women with toiletries such as toothpaste, raisers, deodorant and much more.
Rodrick stated, “This event will provide the women with these items to make their holiday a success.”
So far, twelve purses filled with hygienic items have been donated to the cause. The items were donated to homeless shelters in Edwards, Bolton, Jackson, and other communities in Mississippi.
“It's very important to help the needy because being helpful is a way of showing them that we care and are here to help,” said Patterson.
