Adrian McLain endorses healthy living in upcoming initiative
After noticing the passing of a number of young people due to poor health, Alcorn State University Student Government Association President Adrian McLain came up with an idea to promote healthy living among his peers.
“It seems like people aren’t dying old anymore,” said McLain. “More and more people are passing at younger ages due to health complications. Many of these diseases can actually be prevented by taking care of our health while we are young.”
McLain, along with the Alcorn H.E.R.O.S., will give tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle at his upcoming Male Health Initiative that will be held in the lobby of the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility Feb. 15 through 19 during lunch hours. McLain’s purpose for the initiative is to motivate male students to learn what it means to be healthy and take steps to lead a healthier lifestyle. Some of the topics will be on prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, and practicing safe sex.
McLain said that he was inspired to plan this initiative because men tend to overlook potential health issues.
“Oftentimes, many males tend to overlook various health issues and even feel as though we don’t need to get regular checkups. So, I decided to plan this initiative to show young men the importance of taking care of their bodies.”
