Famed Saxophonist, Branford Marsalis, to perform at the 36th Annual ASU Jazz Festival

Alcorn State University students, faculty, staff and alumni will have the opportunity to take in the smooth sounds of jazz music from one of the genre’s most legendary saxophonist.

The 36th Annual Alcorn State University Jazz Festival will feature the Branford Marsalis Quartet Saturday, April 16 at the Vicksburg Convention Center. The performances will start at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with high school and university jazz ensembles. The Branford Marsalis Workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The concert will continue with a session with the Mississippi Jazz Educators from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The finale will be a performance from the Branford Marsalis Quartet from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

Branford Marsalis is a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master, renowned Grammy Award winning saxophonist and Tony Award nominee. He is known as one of jazz’s most revered instrumentalists of his time. He is a leader of one of the finest jazz quartets today and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles.
