2016 Commencement activities announced
Alcorn State University has prepared a list of congratulatory events leading up to Saturday’s 2016 Commencement Exercises.
The commencement events will kick off Wednesday, May 4 with the School of Education and Psychology Teacher Induction Ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Oakland Memorial Chapel. Future nurses will be pinned Thursday, May 5 at School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. Graduating military science students will be celebrated Friday, May 6 at the ROTC Commissioning Ceremony in the Oakland Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m.
Commencement events will conclude Saturday, May 7 with the 2016 Commencement Exercises in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. The keynote speaker will be President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), Johnny C. Taylor Jr. Under Taylor’s leadership, TMCF represents the country’s 47 publicly supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities. There will be two commencement exercises this year, with the first being for the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Graduate Studies at 8 a.m.
Commencement Exercises for the School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences, School of Education and Psychology, School of Nursing and the Golden Class will be held at 1 p.m.
Graduates should park in the stadium parking lot. Faculty and staff with credentials may park in the VIP section along Spinks-Casem Stadium. Parking for those with a VIP parking pass will be available at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. Guest parking will be available in all marked parking areas with the exception of the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex and Spinks-Casem Stadium parking areas. Available parking areas include the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources, Willie Mae Latham Taylor Park, Extension and Research Complex, Jesse A. Morris Sr./W.C. Boykin Agricultural Science Building and the K.L. Simmons Sr. Technology Building.
