Joy Applewhite earns Mississippi Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Scholarship

Alcorn State University student, Joy Applewhite, has earned funds to help aid her education.

Joy is the recipient of the 2016-2017 Mississippi Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOOP) Scholarship. In retrospect, Joy is happy that she put forth the effort in pursuing the scholarship.

“Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try,” said Joy, a Montecello, Mississippi native. “There have been numerous programs I have tried to enter, several application forms I have filled and many different responses varying between accepted and denied. Success at times includes failures and failures have led to the most successful people’s success.”

Joy is no stranger winning awards. She was named the Zulu Ball Queen, Miss Student Support Services 2015-2016 and she was a student ambassador for the university for a study abroad program in Taipei, Taiwan through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
