Alcorn Natchez Farmers Market to host Extension Awareness Day, Fruit and Vegetable Festival
The Alcorn State University Natchez Farmers Market will host its 9th annual Extension Awareness Day and 5th annual Fruit and Vegetable Festival Saturday, August 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Natchez Farmers Market, 199 St. Catherine Street, Natchez, Mississippi, according to Helen Brooks, marketing coordinator.
The event, sponsored by the Alcorn Extension Program (ASUEP), will have an array of tasty and healthy dishes prepared by staff, volunteers and supporters of the farmers market using seasonal fresh produce.
The United States Department of Agriculture has proclaimed August 7-13 as National Farmers Market Week. In observance of the week, ASUEP staff will be available August 9-13 to answer questions on farming, provide various farming demonstrations and share fact sheets on growing fruits and vegetables.
On August 13, the ASUEP four-planned program areas including their signature Health & Wellness Program will be highlighted. The program areas are Agriculture, 4-H Youth Development, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Community Resource Development. Also, a live “Extension this Week” broadcast on the Alcorn campus radio station, WPRL 91.7 FM, ‘The Gold’ will be held.
Upcoming events at the Natchez Farmers Market include: the 11th annual Pumpkin Carving Contest Saturday, October 29 and the 9th annual Youth Art Competition Saturday, December 10.
