J. D. Boyd Library to present Archives Week at Alcorn

Alcorn State University students, faculty, staff and alumni will have the opportunity to view some of their alma mater’s most significant moments.

The J. D. Boyd Library is gearing up to present Archives Week Monday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 21. The event’s theme is, “Transforming from the Past to the Present; Building a Brighter Future.” Keynote speakers for the week will be Dr. John Walls, who will speak at the Archives Week Program Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Senior Aubrey Wright will speak about the history of Alcorn’s buildings and the names attached to them Friday, Oct. 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Joanna Williams, archivist assistant in the Library’s Archives and Special Collections, said that Archives Week is a great tool for promoting their many assets.

“Archives Week is a way of informing the Alcorn community about activities related to Alcorn archives so that they can get familiar with our collection,” said Williams. “We’ve had a few students who didn’t know about this area, so this is a way for us to show students who we are and what we have to offer.”
