Whitney Jackson officially becomes Miss Alcorn State University 2016-2017 at Coronation
One of Alcorn State University’s most anticipated Homecoming events is seeing the campus queen receive her crown. On Thursday, Oct. 13, students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex to witness Natchez, Mississippi native Whitney Jackson officially begin her reign as the 90th Miss Alcorn State University.
Whitney was overjoyed to take her thrown. As the event continued, she said that she couldn’t help but reflect on the hard work it took for her to reach her shinning moment.
“It’s a great feeling to be officially crowned as Miss Alcorn State University,” said Whitney. “I put so much effort into my campaign, and I plan to put even more effort into my reign.”
Her position gives her countless opportunities to be an advocate for Alcorn, which is something that she takes pride in.
“This opportunity gives me the platform to help soar this university to higher heights. I am very grateful to have been elected to do so.”
Homecoming Week 2016 has been one to remember for Whitney. She hopes that the good times continue to roll at Alcorn.
“I think this homecoming week has been successful. I hope that the student body has enjoyed the week, and I look forward to the student body participating in even more engaging events in the near future.”
In a heartfelt message, Whitney sincerely thanked the student body, her family and the Alcorn community for their support.
Alcorn President Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr. applauded Whitney on her outstanding character and said that she will leave a legacy at the University that all students should follow.
