AKAs walk, collect donations for world hunger
On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the ladies of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. held a walk to bring awareness to world hunger. Monetary donations were also collected from those willing to give to the cause.
According to the United Nations World Food Program, 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy, active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. The vast majority of the world's hungry people live in developing countries, where 12.9 percent of the population is undernourished.
Miss Alcorn State University Whitney Jackson stated, “The KROP WALK was an initiative led by the members of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to bring awareness to world hunger. This event was very important because it puts the spotlight on hunger and allows people to give to those affected. It also helps give us all a chance to be thankful for what we do have.”
The donations will be going to the Church World Service- CROP Hunger Walks.
