Bowling, pool classes available at the Student Union

Are you interested in learning to play pool or bowl? If so, now is your chance to acquire these new skills at Alcorn State University.

Classes in both sports are given in the James L. Bolden Campus Union. The classes are open to freshmen and transfer students, and will be available for upperclassmen, faculty and staff at a later date.

Game Room Manager Milton Coleman’s desire to provide fun for students is what inspired the bowling and pool classes.

“We want to familiarize our new students with what we have to offer when it comes to leisure activities,” said Coleman. “By us providing these activities, it assures them that there is always something to do on campus.”

Edward Jenkins, a senior, business administration major, encourages students to come and enjoy the classes while mingling with their fellow Alcornites.

“We were inspired to do this because it will not only give students more to do, but it will also give them a chance to interact with one another outside of the classroom,” said Edward. “It gives students a chance to get to know one another and possible form friendships.”

The Game Room is also planning to start the Organizational Bowling League where various groups, sororities, fraternities and other organizations across campus can join and compete against each other.

The teams must consist of five members and two alternate players. The teams also have to sign up to participate and must have a valid Alcorn gold card. League play is scheduled to begin Thursday, Feb. 16.
