Small Farmers Conference Held in Greenville
“The Family, The Farm, The Business,” was the theme of the Small Farmers Conference held March 27-29, 2017 at Harlow’s Casino Resort and Spa, Greenville, Mississippi.
The conference was sponsored by the Alcorn State University Extension Program and the Mississippi Association of Cooperatives.
Small- and limited-resource, farmers, ranchers and their families, throughout the state of Mississippi, attended the conference which featured several learning workshops, including topics on nutrition and recipe modification, sustainable agriculture, goat production, demonstration of farming equipment, farm entrepreneurship, mobile farmer markets, organic gardening, ATV safety, money matters, and agricultural smartphone apps.
Representatives from Alcorn State University Policy Research Center for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers, Mississippi Farm Bureau, Mississippi Food Policy Council, and federal and state agencies were presenters; over 45 vendors attended.
