Alcorn to host stadium lighting ceremony at its softball complex

Alcorn State University recently upgraded the lighting system at the Alcorn Softball Complex. The moment will be commemorated before the Lady Braves season opener against Kentucky State University on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 5:10 p.m. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Alcorn’s President Felecia M. Nave will throw the ceremonial first pitch as part of the ceremony.

"It is a great opportunity for us to have more eyes on what these young ladies are working to accomplish,” said Head Coach Josef Rankin. “We no longer have to miss classes for our home games. We appreciate the commitment from Dr. Nave and the assistance from the athletic department to get this done.”

“It is a major step for us in working towards making continuous improvements to our softball facility for our student-athletes and fans,” he continued.

Interim Athletic Director Cyrus Russ noted several benefits of the recent upgrade to the facility.

“Our new high-efficiency LED lighting system will enhance safety for our student-athletes, improve the fan experience, and create revenue-generating opportunities,” said Russ.

The lighting project was $300,000 and funded by institutional funds and state bond proceeds.
