Alcorn student-athletes honor faculty during annual Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program

Alcorn State University student-athletes recently honored faculty members for their outstanding contributions to the University’s athletics program.

The Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program highlights the role of faculty members in supporting the Department of Athletics. The program seeks to recognize faculty members who have contributed to the success of the University’s student-athletes.

“It gives me great joy to show appreciation to our faculty members who have worked hard to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our student-athletes,” said Dr. Felecia M. Nave, president of Alcorn State University. “I would like to thank Dr. Melissa Mason, director of Biotechnology and faculty athletic representative, for her efforts in spearheading the program.”

This year’s honorees are Angela Wynn, instructor, Business; Cassandra Thompson and Richard Myles, both instructors in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; Dr. Lashundia Carson, dean of the School of Education and Psychology; Dr. Grace Kibe, assistant professor, Education and Psychology; Lori Smith, instructor, Biology; and Ernestine Lee, instructor, Social Science.

The Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program provides opportunities for faculty members to become more involved in the University’s athletics program and develop closer relationships with the student-athletes.

The Faculty Athletic Ambassador Program is a testament to the University’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of Alcorn’s faculty.

“This program is a great partnership between Athletics and faculty,” said Dr. Ontario Wooden, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. The Faculty Athletic Ambassadors stay at the forefront of challenges student-athletes may face with courses or general life concerns and helps to remedy issues that may impact persistence.
