Alcorn State University President Dr. Tracy M. Cook announced that Elvin M. Parker has joined his team as interim vice president of finance, administrative services, and operations/chief financial officer (CFO).

Parker brings over 40 years of financial experience to the role, including a ten-year tenure at Alcorn State from 1998 to 2008. During that time, he served in various positions, from grant director to interim CFO.

“We are happy to welcome Mr. Parker back to Alcorn State University,” said President Cook. “His extensive experience in the financial industry and familiarity with Alcorn is invaluable as we continue to strengthen the university for future generations.”

Most recently, Parker served as CFO for the Madison Parish School District. His professional background includes 17 years with the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors and several years as a business owner.

“My return to Alcorn State University has been among the most commonly asked questions,” said Parker. “I am excited to contribute to the University in this capacity and the vision of President Cook. I often think of the Bible verse of Jeremiah 29:11, which states, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

He continued, “I trust that my journey back to Alcorn State University will be prosperous, hopeful, and profound for this great university.”

Throughout his career, Parker has managed budgets exceeding $250 million.

Parker holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and a master’s degree in education from Alcorn State.

A resident of Vicksburg, Miss., he is married to DeAnn F. Parker. They have three children and six grandchildren.
