Alcorn State University will host several summer camps from June through July, serving students from grades 4-12 across Southwest Mississippi.
The programs range from college preparation to music and agriculture, with most camps offered at no cost to participants.
The Upward Bound Program runs June 1-July 10 for students entering grades 9-12 in Adams, Claiborne, Jefferson and Wilkinson counties. The six-week residential program provides college preparation, classes and field trips. Housing and meals are included.
The Fine Arts Summer Music Camp meets June 2-5 for ages 11-17. Students will work with choral, instrumental, classical, jazz and world music. The camp costs $100 before June 1 and $200 after. Lunch and snacks are provided.
Two TRiO Talent Search camps serve current program participants. The camps dates are June 15-July 2 and focuses on academic growth, leadership and career readiness. Separate camps serve students in northern counties (Warren, Claiborne, Sharkey) and southern counties (Jefferson, Adams, Wilkinson).
The AgHope Leadership Academy offers two sessions to introduce students to agricultural careers. The middle school camp runs July 6-13, and the high school camp runs July 20-27. Both target Adams, Claiborne, Jefferson and Warren counties.
Technology Summer Camps will be held June 16-19, June 23-26 and July 21-24. Students entering grades 4-12 will work with robotics, electronics, computer technology and engineering. The program is funded by Entergy, Nissan and the National Nuclear Security Administration.
