Recently, Alcorn State University celebrated the induction of 22 business students and two faculty members into the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business, recognizing their academic excellence.
Dr. Antwon D. Woods, dean of the School of Business, lauded the students, noting that their top 20% class ranking demonstrates their dedication and talent. He also highlighted their extracurricular involvement and leadership qualities. “The significance of this achievement lies not just in the numbers but in what they represent…the dedication and talent found within our walls,” Woods said.
The ceremony featured welcoming remarks from Dr. Edmund Buckner, associate provost, and an overview of the honor society by chapter vice president LaZarion Gary, a graduate student. Certificates were presented by Gary and chapter president Jaquavis Gibson.
Woods emphasized the benefits of Delta Mu Delta membership for career advancement, including networking, scholarships, and internships. “Membership is an important stepping stone for our students, giving them a platform to display their academic achievements to future employers,” he stated.
Senior accounting major Tyler Feltson, from Shaw, Miss., was recognized as a Top Scholar and for his pursuit of CPA certification. Woods commended his dedication and commitment to excellence. “Tyler Felton epitomizes the values we try to instill in our students: dedication, determination, and a love of learning,” Woods noted.

The event also celebrated the success of a team of students – The team included Cameron Yarber, a finance major from Jackson, Miss.; Destiny Oscar, an accounting major from Jackson, Miss.; Brionna Evans, a business administration and marketing major from Gulfport, Miss.; Tyler Feltson, an accounting major from Shaw, Miss.; and Nigel Caesar, a business administration and accounting major from Mendenhall, Miss. – who placed third nationally in a recent business plan competition. Notably, their presentation was judged the best among historically black colleges and universities and minority-serving institutions in the competitive field.
Woods outlined the School of Business’s focus on practical application and its goal to produce transformative leaders. “We focus on a curriculum that balances theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students for the challenges of the business world,” he said.
