Alcorn State University Reference Librarian Jawanda Wilson received a $5,000 grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council to support the university’s library programming and archival preservation efforts.
The council awarded the funding for Wilson’s project, “The Power of Place: Stories, Memory, and Heritage in the Alcorn Community.” The grant funds equipment to assist with preserving archives and artifacts.
“Her work reflects the mission of University Libraries to support learning and cultural engagement,” said Alcorn State University Dean of University Libraries Stefanie Taylor. “We are pleased to see her efforts recognized at the state level.”
Wilson stated that the funding strengthens opportunities for students and community members to connect with cultural and historical resources.
Wilson has served the university for eight years. She previously held the role of public service director.
The Mississippi Humanities Council creates programs that encourage civic reflection, discussion and participation. The organization supplies materials to help obtain, preserve and share archives.
