The Office of Global Programs provides a number of free services to the students, faculty and staff to help increase both global awareness and international interest. These services include:
Study Abroad – Help students with all aspects of Study Abroad; scholarship information and application, international applications and other required related documents, course selection and approval, and preparing and obtaining necessary documents, i.e. passports, visas.
International Student Support– We help international students become integrated and acclimated to life on the Alcorn campus and in the local community. We assist them with Interpreting and applying federal regulations, advising, and ensuring compliance related to work authorization, travel/re-entry, course load requirements, visa adjustments. We also counsel and assist students with immigration matters. We maintain up-to-date information on INS regulations. We help them get find local resources and engage them in projects related to internationalization at Alcorn.
Language Institutes – Global Programs has Language Institutes in the Fall and Spring semesters and also a short Summer Language Institute during the Summer semester. The Language Institutes are open to Alcorn students, faculty and staff. For more information and on-line application for current language classes, please click this here. Faculty-Led International Study Tours – OGP will facilitate Study tours to specific countries to fulfill the requirements of a course or a program offered on the ASU campus.
International Projects – The Office of Global Programs works closely with the Agriculture and other departments to establish international partners or cooperative agreements with international universities with the aim of creating opportunities for faculty.
Global Classroom – OGP has mobile videoconferencing units which allow us to bring videoconferencing to classrooms and connect with universities and organizations from around the world. Videoconferencing is a great way to have face-to-face educational instruction from institutions beyond the Alcorn campus and the USA. Exchange of information and development of cooperative agreements between ASU and international entities increases the potential for global awareness and internationalization of the Alcorn students.
Rosetta Stone Foreign Language Software – We have the premier foreign language software, Rosetta Stone, in a number of languages. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to use this software free of charge. Please come to the Office of Global Programs to register for a Rosetta Stone account.
Special Events – Every year, The Office of Global Programs facilitates the Multicultural Festival which includes international speakers, posters, presentations, video, cultural artifacts, dances, music and food by Alcorn students, staff and faculty. It is open to Alcorn and the local communities. We also have Study Abroad Fairs and Passport Drives to inform students about the opportunities for international education and encourage them to consider Study Abroad.
Passport/VISA photos – We take photos in the Office of Global Programs suitable for use for Passport and VISA applications. We will provide two 2” X 2”photos free of charge.
Document Translation and Verification – We will translate and/or verify translation of official documents for international students and members of the local community. Translation fee is $10.00 cash, we don’t accept checks or credit cards.
