PACE Participates in 7th Fat to Fit Summer Olympics Games 2017

Parents and Children Engaged, a research project to prevent childhood obesity, was one among many participants at the 7th annual Fat to Fit Summer Olympics Games held July 21.

The event, sponsored by the Fayette Community Service Organization of Fayette, Mississippi, was held to bring awareness of obesity prevention to the citizens.

Information about the PACE project was given by Priscilla Houston, research aide. She shared informational materials and fun facts on health and nutrition to 90 parents and children who visited the PACE display table. Many parents were eager to learn how to improve their health and nutrition.

“This is a positive sign for the PACE project as it endeavors to bring changes in children as parents make healthy choices for the family” Dr. Martha Ravola, PACE principal investigator, associate professor and interim chair, Department of Human Sciences said.

The ‘Fat to Fit’ program served as a resourceful medium to reach the community. “Being a citizen of your community is one thing, but to educate and promote help to your community is a rare privilege,” Houston said.
