James Stirgus elected Alcorn's 2019-2020 Student Government Association President

The students at Alcorn State University have chosen their next top ranking Student Government Association (SGA) leader.

James Stirgus, a business finance major from Vicksburg, Mississippi, was elected the 2019-2020 SGA president Tuesday, March 26 in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Multi-Purpose Room.

“I feel blessed that the student body trusts me to be their student leader, and I’m excited to put my best foot forward,” said Stirgus.

Some of Stirgus’ campaign points focused on housing improvements and more engagement amongst the student body.

“I would like to survey the student dormitories to figure out and solve any major issues. I also hope to establish a website for student organizations to publish their events so the student body can become more aware and interactive with each other.”

With his campaign theme, “Be the Change to Secure the Future,” Stirgus’ goal was to run a campaign based on leadership and hard work. He believes that the student body can play a major role in the continued progress of the university.

“I chose this theme because I believe that in order for our university to have a brighter future, the students need to be a part of the change. I told myself going into the race that I was going to be myself and let my work speak for itself.”

Stirgus expressed his gratitude for everyone who voted for and supported him on his journey.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support. I humbly appreciate this, and I will do everything in my power to make sure next year is a year we will never forget.”
