Kellie McDonald credits Alcorn for her evolution

College life can be the most amazing time in a young adult’s life, but it can also present obstacles that will test the individual’s will to carry on. Luckily for Kellie McDonald, she was able to find the strength to succeed.

“My four years of college were awesome,” said McDonald. “There were challenges, but I was able to persevere and make it to the finish line.”

The fruit of McDonald’s labor was rewarded Friday, Dec. 8 when she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work at Alcorn State University's 2017 Fall Commencement in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. She acknowledges her path at Alcorn for molding her into who she is today.

“My college experience turned me into the woman I am now. I’m very proud of the woman I have become.”

McDonald’s passion is coming to the aid of those in need, which is why she selected social work as her area of study.

“I chose social work because I love helping people. I’ll go above and beyond to be of service to others. I hope to make a positive, life-changing impact on the lives of others.”

In the future, McDonald plans to start a successful career as a social worker while pursuing a master’s degree to further her skills.
