Alcorn Extension to host Housing Awareness Day Workshop
On June 23, 2014, the Alcorn State University Extension Program (ASUEP)—in conjunction with the Small Farm Outreach Training and Technical Assistance Project (SFOT&TAP), USDA Rural Development Program (USDA-RD), and Mississippi State University Extension Service (MSUES)—will host the 2014 Housing Awareness Day Workshop from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Claiborne County Multipurpose Center, 1703 Bridewell Lane, Port Gibson, Miss.
“The purpose of this workshop is to foster community awareness of the resources available through the Rural Development Housing Program offered by these agencies,” said Rachae Martin, business management training officer at Alcorn’s Extension Program. “Valuable presentations will be conducted during the event to provide the participants with a platform to begin their housing journey.”
Martin will present on “The Ins and Outs of Obtaining Credit” as well as give an overview of the Small Farm Outreach Training and Technical Assistance Project. In addition, MSUES Family and Consumer Science 4-H youth agent Monica Thomas will provide information on how home seeking individuals can budget their finances and get a handle on their spending with her presentation “Needs vs. Wants: Don't Let Your Habits Consume You!” Finally, Augusta McLure, USDA-RD loan specialist, will give an overview of the USDA Rural Development Program.
After the presentations, the floor will be open for participants to ask questions, and interested individuals can apply on site for the various loans and grants offered.
This workshop is free and open to the public, and registration is not required. Farmers and ranchers are especially urged to attend. To learn more about the services of the Rural Development Housing Program and event, contact Rachae Martin (601) 833-9321 ext. 124 or [email protected] .
