Department of Social Work attends AL-MS Social Work Education Conference
The 43rd annual Alabama-Mississippi Social Work Education Conference was held October 8-10 at Tuskegee University. Social work faculty Dr. Dorothy Idleburg, Dr. Valtreasa Tolliver-Cook and students Michael Shelby and Pamela Pruitt represented Alcorn State University at the conference.
Pruitt and Shelby held their own by coming in 2nd place in the competition.
Colleges and universities throughout the state of Alabama and Mississippi with accredited social work departments were in attendance. A workshop on “Social Work Competencies for Working with the Sandwich Generation” was presented by Drs. Idleburg and Tolliver-Cook, who also presided as moderator of the conference’s 1st Annual Scholar’s Quiz Bowl.
Other schools including Jacksonville State University, Tuskegee University, University of Alabama, and Mississippi State University were asked questions regarding social welfare policy, theories and concepts.
