Alcorn’s Department of Biological Sciences awarded at science symposium
Students from Alcorn State University’s Department of Biological Sciences were awarded for their scientific prowess.
Four of the department’s students won awards at the Mississippi Academy of Sciences/NIH-INBRE Graduate Symposium February 26-27. The students presented their work and competed against other colleges such as the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Biological sciences instructors Dr. Jon Ignacio Moreno and Dr. Marta A. Piva accompanied the students.
Jacquais D. Dukes won first place in the Graduate Poster Presentation: Division of Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology category. Dominique S. Green earned first place in the Graduate Poster Presentation: Division of Zoology and Entomology category. Tamikka L. Coleman won the second place award in the Graduate Poster Presentation: Division of Zoology and Entomology and honorable mention honorable mention in another category. Members of the jury also praised Classie Johnson’s presentation.
Professors Dr. Piva and Dr. Moreno was happy with the success of the students.
“We are very proud of these accomplishments which underscore the students’ scientific training and presentations skills,” said Dr. Moreno.
