In a continuous effort to prepare its students for future employment, the Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences hosted an informative seminar in the Jesse A. Morris/W.C. Boykin Agricultural Science Building September 29, 2015.

“This seminar gives students the opportunity to understand that preparation and planning are key factors of success,” Hart expressed. “It will also help to establish a long-term relationship between Alcorn’s Department of Agriculture and Cargill.”

The lecture covered job interviewing and resume writing tips, stages and types of interviews, and top 10 things about a successful internship. The objective of the lecture was to supply students with the tools, techniques and approaches beneficial for their progression into the workforce.

The event was a collaboration of the Recruitment and Retention Corporate Partnership Initiative, between the School of AREAS and Cargill.

Every year Cargill looks to recruit at least 64 students in the Midwestern region for professional opportunities, four of whom come from Alcorn. Representatives of the company visit the Lorman campus four times a year to recruit two senior students for full-time positions and two sophomore and junior students for internships.

“The purpose of this session is to familiarize students with professional opportunities in large corporate companies such as Cargill,” said Dr. Wesley Whittaker, School of AREAS assistant dean of academics and agricultural economics program leader.
