Justin Mathis selected as 2017 Mississippi Business Journal Top 50 Under 40 candidate
Alcorn State University alumnus Justin Mathis will be recognized for his commitment to preparing junior high and high school students for college.
Mathis is nominated for the 2017 Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 50 Under 40 Business Leaders. Mathis is the founder of the non-profit organization, The Mathis Foundation, which prepares low income and potential first generation 6-12 grade students in the Jackson metropolitan area to succeed in college. Mathis’ organization provides academic and social support that focuses on providing a more rigorous curriculum to high school students to give them a glimpse of what college requires.
Mathis explained the organization’s other methods of making a difference in the lives of future college students.
“We are making a difference by providing services for students and parents who seem to struggle with preparing for college,” said Mathis. “We offer help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), ACT prep, scholarships and filling out college applications.”
Mathis proudly accepts his nomination for his outstanding work in the community.
“I am humbled that the Mississippi Business Journal has nominated me as a 2017 40 Under 50 candidate. It is an honor. I never thought I would be nominated for such an amazing award for doing what I love to do. Words can’t express my appreciation.”
