Dr. Alex Acholonu receives prestigious award from Nigeria, publishes two scientific papers

Dr. Alex Acholonu has once again been honored for his exceptional scientific research.

The biology professor in Alcorn State University’s Department of Biology was one of 11 individuals who were honored with the Imo Diaspora Award for Professional Excellence during the Imo Diaspora Lectures and Awards Ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 20 in Nigeria. Concept Masters Inc., a media and opinion research outfit in Owerri, Imo State, sponsored the ceremony.

Acholonu was also selected to give the ceremony’s keynote speech. His speech was titled, “The Role of the Diaspora in Nation-Building: A Case Study of Imo State.”

Of all of his awards, Acholonu said that he appreciates this one the most.

“This award adds to several accolades that I have received for my professional, academic and social accomplishments,” said Acholonu. “This was one of the most precious and treasured awards that I have received.”

Acholonu also published two scientific articles in the International Journal, Advances in Science and Technology. The articles are titled, “River Nworie in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria: A Public Health Hazard?” and “the Quality and Disposal of Treated Wastewater at Alcorn State University, the Use of Wastewater for Energy Production and other Benefits.”
