Ariyana Davis reflects on her first week at Alcorn

Ariyana Davis, the Chicago native and freshman at Alcorn State University who made headlines for receiving about $300,000 in scholarship offers from 24 other colleges – 23 of them being historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) – is wrapping up her first week as a student at the University. Once she set foot on campus and got accustomed to its positive atmosphere, she was sure that becoming a Brave was the right choice.

“My first week at Alcorn State University has been great,” said Ariyana. “When I arrived on campus, I thought that choosing this school was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I knew that spending the next four years here would greatly impact my life.”

Like most students, Ariyana has already started to form bonds with interesting Alcornites. She’s pleased with the first impression that everyone has made on her.

“I have met many interesting students from different counties, states and countries. The faculty and staff are very dedicated to their profession, and are happy to assist your needs.”

Experiencing all that college has to offer is high on Ariyana’s to-do list. She’s looking forward to exploring various clubs and organizations during her stint at Alcorn.

“I am looking forward to joining a couple of clubs, meeting more new people from different places, participating in fun activities and engaging with others in the classroom.”

Ariyana assures high school students who have Alcorn on their list of prospective schools that the University is a great place to further their education.

“I would tell them that Alcorn is a beautiful place to be. Also, keep moving forward, and Alcorn is and will always be by your side.”
