Entergy donates funds to Alcorn’s Saturday Science Academy
One of Mississippi’s leading companies continues to support Alcorn State University’s Saturday Science Academy for enhancing the minds of surrounding youth.
Shelia McKinnis, customer service representative for Entergy Mississippi Inc., presented a $7,500 check to Mary Trimble, Academy director, and President Alfred Rankins Jr. Monday, July 31. McKinnis also volunteered to participate in community service to help raise more funds for the program, which resulted in an extra $500 donation. Justin Rice, also an Entergy Mississippi, Inc. employee, joined McKinnis in her support for the program.
The grant will be used to support the needs of the Academy and to continue to extend STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) knowledge to its students.
“The grant will increase the number of student learning experiences outside of the classroom, and will enhance many learning experiences within the classroom,” said Trimble.
Trimble is thankful that the company is willing to help spread their vision.
“I am grateful that the company considers our program as one that is making a difference in the education of middle school students in Claiborne and Jefferson counties.”
This is the seventh year that Entergy Mississippi, Inc. has donated funds to the Saturday Science Academy.
