Alcorn officials monitoring Tropical Storm Gordon

Alcorn State University officials are continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Gordon as it is forecast to make landfall along the Mississippi Gulf Coast tonight and continue on a track inland across south Mississippi. At this time, the potential for heavy rains, flash flooding and high winds are expected for the Alcorn campus in Lorman.

Unless conditions significantly deteriorate, normal University operations, classes, events and campus activities will continue on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018 at 8 a.m. If an imminent threat to public safety is determined, University officials will immediately notify all students, faculty and staff through email, our “ConnectEd” emergency communications system and the University’s website and social media pages.

Based on consultation with emergency management officials and the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, we believe this approach gives our students, employees and visitors enough time to safely prepare and respond. If you have concerns about your ability to safely travel to and/or from campus, please contact your instructor or supervisor or campus police at (601) 877-3000.

To ensure you receive University emergency communications, confirm that your contact information is up-to-date in the University’s emergency communication system, “ConnectEd”. Log in to https://connected.alcorn.edu/to update and add contact information.

University officials encourage students, faculty and staff to closely monitor official sources of information and learn more about storm preparedness at https://www.msema.org/hurricane2018/. Updates from the National Weather Service are available at https://www.weather.gov/mob/andhttps://twitter.com/NWSMobile.

The university appreciates everyone’s cooperation and strongly encourages all to stay safe and exercise your best judgment over the next 24 to 36 hours.
