Cyrus Russ named interim assistant vice president for Athletic Compliance and Student Athletic Services
Alcorn State University has selected one of its own to take over the reigns in Athletic Compliance and Student Athletic Services.
Cyrus Russ was selected as the interim assistant vice president for Athletic Compliance and Student Athletic Services in the Office of Academic Enhancement and Compliance. Russ, the former assistant athletic director for Compliance and Student Athlete Services, is replacing Jason Cable, who was selected as senior associate commissioner for Administration with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
In the role, Russ is responsible for providing senior level administrative support to the Department of Athletics. He will serve as the university’s chief administrator for the state, SWAC, and NCAA Division I rules compliance for sports teams, and serves as an educational resource to student athletes, coaches, athletics administration staff, and all other appropriate staff.
The challenge is one that Russ welcomes with open arms. He looks forward to tackling a bigger role at Alcorn.
“It’s always a good feeling to be granted an opportunity to serve and challenge myself in a position that requires increased responsibility,” said Russ. “I look forward to the challenge and serving the institution in an exemplary manner that will make Alcornites proud.”
Russ’ goal is to continue the success his Office has achieved over the years with service and the provision of more resources.
“I look forward to serving our student-athletes, students, and alumni. It serves as a bridge to continue the work that I’ve been a part of for almost two years. The team and I will continue to work to build collaborative relationships and partnerships that will lead to increased resources for our students and the university.”
