Alcorn State University announces spring semester Brave Start 2.0

Following the success of the Fall Semester safe start, Alcorn State University announces its Spring Semester “A Brave Start 2.0” with in-person classes beginning on January 19, 2021.

As Alcorn State University continues to monitor and respond to the challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, its focus remains the same: ensure the health and wellbeing of its community and provide a high-quality educational experience for its students. Accordingly, the University will implement enhanced Brave Start health and safety protocols for the Spring 2021 Semester.

The health and safety plan is available to the public on the University’s website and is continuously updated with the most recent information and resources. Students and employees are encouraged to download Everbridge, the University’s contact tracing and symptom monitoring application, and self-report recent travel, possible COVID-19 related exposure, and/or associated symptoms.

Additionally, there are several important adjustments to the academic calendar designed to reduce the Alcorn community’s risk of exposure to COVID-19 by reducing travel and social gatherings during the semester. Like many schools around the nation, the University will start the Spring Semester one week later and cancel spring break in support of the safety of its students and employees.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, the health and wellbeing of our Alcorn community has been our overarching concern, and the comprehensive best practices we put in place with the Brave Start plan, including safe social distancing, reduced classroom density, required use of face coverings, and symptom screening, has served us well,” said Alcorn President Felecia M. Nave. “As we prepare for the start of the Spring Semester, the University has implemented new technologies, better analytics, and 24/7 resources such as online tutoring to support our students’ success and help keep them safe.”
