Alcorn to kick off upcoming Career Week on Monday
The Alcorn State University Office of Career Services plans to kick off a week of events to prepare students for future career endeavors.
The Office’s Career Week will be held Monday, Sept. 26, through Thursday, Sept. 29, in the James L. Bolden Student Union Ball Room. The event will feature four occasions that will aid students in becoming career ready by providing them with knowledge, information, and opportunities.
The first three days are designed to equip students with career training. The career training includes resume review, “Dress for Success,” mock interviewing, branding, and more. These events will each start at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.
“They will have the chance throughout the week to meet with human resources and recruiting experts from different industries to ask questions and discuss the regulations and instructions of interviewing. All this plus other tools and resources will be provided,” said Mr. Roy Burr from the Career Services Department.
The career training provided is to assist students with everything needed to succeed on Thursday, Sept. 29th’s Career Fair, “Secure the Bag!” This last event is where students get to put what they have learned to use to secure an outstanding achievement professionally.
There will be numerous companies that will be participating for the first time this year. This is a result of the successful career weeks Alcorn has hosted previously.
“These companies are eager to visit our beautiful campus and meet with our talented, passionate, and diverse student body who are eager to explore what is available. Over 60 employers and graduate schools will participate in the Career and Job Fair. These companies are here to hire, so I want to encourage all students to join us! Let’s take advantage of this golden opportunity,” said Burr.
