Dr. Babu George appointed as interim dean of Alcorn State’s School of Business

Alcorn State University announces the appointment of Dr. Babu George as interim dean of the School of Business and professor in the Department of Business Administration.   

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Babu George to Alcorn State University and for his willingness to step into the dean position until a permanent dean is named,” said Dr. Ontario Wooden, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “I am quite pleased with his work thus far and look forward to his many contributions to the School of Business and the Alcorn State University community.”

In his new role, he is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership for the School, developing current and future programs, and engaging in activities to increase undergraduate and graduate student enrollment for the School of Business.

Before coming to ASU, George served in various academic-administrative roles at multiple universities, including Fort Hays State University, the University of Nevada — Las Vegas, Alaska Pacific University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. 

Additionally, he maintains his visiting professor designations at more than 15 universities worldwide. 

“To be able to serve the Alcorn School of Business in a leadership role for me is a lifetime opportunity to help define and deliver business education for what it should be from a personal standpoint,” said George. “I am thrilled that the Alcorn State University leadership is fully committed to engaging the potential of the School of Business as a strategic means to achieve its goals of developing sustainable communities and livelihoods in the region and beyond.”

An avid researcher, he has published more than 200 research papers in international scholarly journals. His most recently published books include Progress in Green Economics, Mobility, and Globalization; Digital Transformation in Business and Society; International Case Studies in the Management of Disasters, to name a few. 

His current research interests include sustainability and digital transformation. 

“As a teacher and researcher, I am inspired by the interdisciplinary knowledge interconnecting disciplines and professions,” said George.

George was born and raised in a remote village in Kerala, in the southernmost region of India, and later migrated to the United States under the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Outstanding Researcher program.

He holds a Ph.D. in management, a Doctorate in Business Administration in international business, and an Education Specialist degree in higher education innovation and leadership and is a graduate of Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management program. 

George is an avid traveler and celebrates the beauty of diversity in cultures. 

“I have traveled, either for leisure, work, or volunteering to more than 70 countries.”
