School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences to host 9th annual Center for Research Excellence Symposium, Feb. 9th

Researchers from colleges and universities across Mississippi will display their findings during Alcorn’s annual showcase.

The 9th annual Center for Research Excellence Symposium (CRES) will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Biotechnology Building from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event will be hosted by the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. Students and faculty from other Mississippi colleges and universities are welcome to participate. Awards will be given at the end of the event.

The purpose of CRES is to expose students to various conference elements, including oral and poster presentations, registration, abstract submission, and vendor information. The symposium helps train undergraduate and graduate students to prepare them to present and compete in academic research professional conferences.

Dr. Melissa Mason, director of Biotechnology at Alcorn, applauds the symposium for being a platform for University researchers to display their abilities.

“CRES serves as a platform to help expose the compelling research at Alcorn State University,” said Mason. “Alcorn’s talented researchers continue to advance research in agriculture, applied sciences, and much more. CRES has become an essential tool for Alcorn’s research community.”

Mason said the opportunity also allows researchers to network with each other and industry leaders interested in possibly hiring scientists.

“CRES helps increase collaboration amongst interdisciplinary research and provides an area for researchers across campus to meet and exchange ideas as well as network with outside industries and academic institutions.”
