Jhada Wade wants to uplift, inspire, and empower her fellow Alcornites to be great, and now, she has the platform to deliver.
Alcorn State University’s student body recently selected the biology/pre-physical therapy major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to be the University’s 99th Miss Alcorn State University.
Since arriving in Lorman in 2022, Wade has held student titles that shaped her leadership skills, paving the way for her Miss Alcorn campaign. Her former student leadership roles include Miss Freshman 2022-2023, Campus Activities Board president, and The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) president. Some of her other roles include serving as the sophomore class events coordinator, NSLS fundraising coordinator, two-time Miss NSLS, and Brave Ambassador. Despite her busy schedule, Wade maintains excellent grades and is a Dean’s Scholar.
Her resume reflects her commitment to leading others.
“Alcorn has prepared me for this role,” said Wade. “Since the summer of 2022, I have been dedicated to serving this institution by consistently putting my best foot forward as an advocate for students on and off campus. I strive to be the change I wish to see by making a meaningful impact.”
Wade’s campaign, “A Brave Masquerade,” emphasized authenticity, personal growth, and community engagement. She encouraged students to be confident in themselves and vowed to provide resources to aid students’ personal, professional, and mental development.
Wade’s path to the crown was rooted in faith. She credits spirituality as the driving force that led her to her destiny.
“First and foremost, God is the center of my life, guides my steps, and shapes my success. I complete every assignment as unto the Lord. As someone who has been a leader and trendsetter my entire life, I knew this was the right path for me.”
Multiple loved ones and mentors cheered for Wade along her journey. She appreciates everyone who helped her realize her dream.
“The overwhelming support, encouragement, and positivity I’ve received further solidified my decision to run. Additionally, my parents, siblings, family, and friends motivated me to take on this responsibility. I am grateful to faculty and staff members such as President Tracy Cook, Ms. Sonya Eley, Roy Burr, Jabreel Walker, and the entire Department of Biology for guiding me and seeing my potential. Their encouragement pushed me to step away from my comfort zone to embrace leadership confidently.”
One of Wade’s biggest and most important supporters was her grandmother, who motivated her to leave the comfort of her home to explore new opportunities. That advice led her to Alcorn.
“During my senior year of high school, I spent much of my time caring for my grandmother, who had been diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. I considered staying home to attend Southern University so I could be near her, but she encouraged me to explore the world. That summer, I attended LSMAMP at Alcorn and developed a love like no other for our beloved institution. My grandmother was able to see me complete the program and encouraged me to keep striving for excellence. Her words stayed with me, and Alcorn has become my second home.”
Earning the title is legacy-defining for Wade. She hopes to leave a positive mark on the University after her reign.
“I hope to leave a rich legacy of class, integrity, transformation, and empowerment that inspires students to be confident in their ability to make an impact at Alcorn and beyond. I want our court to be remembered for creating meaningful change and strengthening the spirit of unity on campus.”
