Thaddeus Fairley Sr., as special assistant to the dean for operations in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS).

Fairley will support the college’s strategic initiatives in operations, agricultural development, alumni engagement, and facilities management in his new role.

Fairley brings a diverse background in government service, agriculture, nonprofit leadership, and economic development.

In 2021, he was appointed as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in Mississippi, becoming the first African American to hold this role.

He led reforms during the COVID-19 pandemic to improve equity, efficiency, and accessibility for farmers statewide.

“We are excited to have Mr. Fairley join our leadership team,” said Dr. Dexter B. Wakefield I, dean and director of land-grant programs. “His extensive experience in agriculture, public policy, and community engagement makes him a tremendous asset to our college. His leadership will enhance our operations and strengthen the connections between the university, producers, alumni, and the communities we serve.”

A native of Sunflower, Miss., Fairley previously served as a field representative for Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, focusing on broadband access and constituent services.

He also brings more than seven years of experience in the banking industry, emphasizing community and economic development initiatives.

Fairley has long been committed to community leadership, serving on the Sunflower County Freedom Project board, a nonprofit dedicated to developing young leaders in the Mississippi Delta.

In 2020, he was honored with the Higher Purpose Award for his contributions to minority business development in the region.

Fairley holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from Mississippi Valley State University and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from LSU Shreveport.

He resides in Indianola, Miss., with his wife, Felicia, and their three children.
