Alcorn receives SACSCOC reaffirmation for 10 years
Alcorn State University’s accreditation was reaffirmed for 10 years by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) during its annual meeting.
The university was approved for reaffirmation with no recommendations.
“I am so excited by the accrediting commission’s announcement. To be reaffirmed without recommendation is a remarkable achievement. This reaffirmation confirms that when a student chooses Alcorn, they are choosing excellence,” said Dr. Felecia M. Nave, president of Alcorn State University. “The reaffirmation process is truly an immense undertaking and represents countless hours of research and document preparation by our dedicated faculty and staff.”
“I would like to thank our former Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment, Dr. LaToya Hart, for her persistence and leadership during our reaffirmation process; Desmond Stewart, chief enterprise architect, for technical assistance; Patricia Keys, SACSCOC coordinator, and Gretchen Buckles, special assistant to the dean, School of Education and Psychology, for their assistance in preparation for the offsite report and onsite visit,” Nave said.
Institutional reaffirmation is a testament to the quality and effectiveness of Alcorn’s degree programs and services.
“Reaffirmation by our regional accrediting agency recognizes the quality of an Alcorn education and the University’s ongoing commitment to student success by its faculty and staff,” said Dr. Ontario S. Wooden, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “This is a significant accomplishment of which the entire university community should be proud.”
SACSCOC’s reaffirmation process occurs every 10 years and ensures institutional compliance with several indicators related to the quality of student learning, programs, and services, adherence to the institution’s mission, and “The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement.”
As part of the process, institutions are charged with developing a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) dedicated to “improving student learning outcomes and/or student success.” In five years, Alcorn will submit an impact report of the QEP for its reaffirmation review.
Alcorn’s QEP is designed to increase fall-to-fall retention and graduation rates. The plan’s theme, “The Alcorn Success Network: A Strategic Approach to Improve Students’ Academic and Career Planning,” focused on boosting student persistence by strengthening and enhancing the institution’s academic and career advising infrastructure.
