Alcorn to celebrate Steve “Air II” McNair Day, retire number nine jersey

Alcorn State University has proclaimed Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, as Steve “Air II” McNair Day and will officially retire McNair’s No. 9 collegiate jersey during halftime of the Braves’ 2 p.m. football game versus Southern University at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium, Dwight Fisher Field. The day will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of McNair setting the FCS total offensive yards record, that still stands today, on October 23, 1994, versus Southern University. Members of the McNair Family, former teammates, coaches, and university officials will join President Felecia M. Nave on the field for the halftime ceremony and special presentations.

The University is anticipating a strong showing for the SWAC rivalry game as General Admission tickets are still available for purchase. All fans are strongly encouraged to Purchase Tickets Online in advance and arrive as early as possible to the campus. Tickets can be printed at home or displayed on your mobile device to enter the stadium. General Event parking ($15), General Tailgate ($40), Bus/RV Overflow ($75) parking passes are still available to purchase as you enter the campus on game day. Game Day ticket sales will begin at 6 a.m. at the all ticket booths. Fans are reminded that the University enforces a Clear Bag Policy and umbrellas are not allowed inside the stadium.

Restrooms

Due to vandalism and in an abundance of caution for fan safety and security, the university is closing all academic facilities for game days going forward. This policy will be strictly enforced. Additional portable restrooms, including ADA accessible facilities, will be located in the areas around the Kenneth L. Simmons Industrial Technology (IT) Building, the Morris-Boykin Agricultural Sciences Building and the Agriculture Extension Building. The portable restrooms will be well-stocked and serviced throughout the day. Beginning at 6:00 a.m., the following athletics buildings’ restrooms will still be open to the public and available until one hour following the end of the game: E.E. Simmons Gymnasium, William “Bill” Foster Baseball Stadium, Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex Main Lobby, Willie Mae Latham Taylor Park and the Softball Stadium.

Traffic

As a safety precaution, fans are requested to park on the campus in paved lots as much as possible and encouraged to slow speeds and obey traffic laws in. Parking on grass is strongly discouraged due to the potential for extremely wet weather conditions. We especially ask drivers to use their “Brave Eyes” and be on the lookout for pedestrians along roadways and in parking lots. Additional law enforcement personnel, including state troopers will be on hand to assist with traffic management and crowd control. Please follow the instructions of all law enforcement officials and park in assigned or numbered spaces.

Additionally, all other existing game day rules and regulations are still in effect. Fans are also reminded to review the Fan Guide to prepare and enjoy a successful homecoming experience.

Please stay tuned to the University and Athletics websites and social media pages for any other updates or changes.
