Coranisha Warren and Dr. Robert Sizemore look back on their HEADWAE experience

For Coranisha Warren and Dr. Robert Sizemore, representing Alcorn State University as honorees at the 32ndannual Higher Education Appreciation Day – Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) Program was a moment that they both will cherish.

As Warren reflected on her HEADWAE experience, she realized that her honor was a testament to the knowledge and character that Alcorn instills in its students. She hopes that her success serves as the motivation for high school students to choose Alcorn as the next stop on their educational pathway.

“I felt so proud to be given the chance to not only represent Alcorn, but also be a beacon of light to students coming behind me,” said Warren. “I want all students to know that they can achieve any goal that they set for themselves.”

For Sizemore, it was an honor for him to be recognized by people who he regards highly. He appreciates their acknowledgment.

“It was a great honor to represent Alcorn not only because it represents years of hard work, but also because it was an award chosen by my peers,” said Sizemore. “I truly appreciate the recognition and feel blessed to be honored.”

Reaching such a milestone on her journey pushed Warren to work as hard as she ever has. She said that if felt great to see the fruits of her labor being highlighted. 

“It felt amazing to see my hard work and dedication pay off,” said Warren. “I thought being awarded a scholarship was a great feeling, but actually being nominated to represent our great university was one of my greatest accomplishments thus far. Alcorn has given me all the tools I need to be successful in my future career and life. I am very grateful to be a part of the Alcorn family.”

Sizemore expressed how proud he felt to watch one of his best pupils make strides toward success. He said that for him, her recognition was the standout moment of the program.

“We should encourage our students to strive for excellence,” said Sizemore. “To see one of my students achieve greatness was doubly exciting. It made the program that much more satisfying.
