Delta Epsilon Chapter participates in public service
Alcorn State University’s Delta Epsilon Chapter spent the month of December giving back to the community.
The students traveled to A. W. Watson in Port Gibson, Mississippi Thursday, Dec. 8 to deliver toys to students for the Christmas holiday. Chapter President DeShayla Vassell believes that showing the importance of giving is key to developing today’s youth.
“We really enjoyed giving back to the young children because they are tomorrow’s leaders,” said DeShayla, a junior at Alcorn.
The Chapter also hosted the “StuDE with DE” tutoring program in the James L. Bolden Campus Union during finals week to help prepare their peers to ace their tests. The students offered tutoring in chemistry, algebra, world history and anatomy and physiology.
Sharika Hodges, a junior and Chapter member, said that the group was happy to help their fellow Alcornites to be successful.
“It was a very rewarding experience to reach out to the students,” said Sharika. “We are an organization of college educated women committed to public service. We were elated to know that our program helped students become academic scholars.”
