Nominate Alcorn for the Home Depot Retool Your School program
It’s that time of year for students, faculty, staff and alumni to nominate Alcorn State University for the 2017 Home Depot Retool Your School.
The Program, which is entering its eighth year of existence, was developed to benefit the nation’s Historically black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). A total of nine grants will be awarded this year: three $50,000 grants, three $40,000 grants and three $30,000 grants.
Jeff Posey, associate vice president for Facilities Management at Alcorn, believes that casting a vote for the University shows school spirit.
“The Home Depot Retool Your School Program provides a great opportunity for Alcornites to show support for the University,” said Posey.
The Home Depot strives to give back to HBCUs a strong foundation, renewed purpose and distinctive character. The grant awarded from the Retool Your School program gives schools an opportunity to make upgrades to their campuses. Schools will be divided into clusters based on their student enrollment population. Per cluster, there will be one $50,000 grand prize grant, one $40,000 second place grant and one $30,000 third place grant.
All grants will be awarded based on consumer voting and project proposal scores, which are determined by a panel of judges.
Alcornites are encouraged to nominate the University via Twitter and/or Instagram using Alcorn’s hashtag, #Alcorn_RYS17. The nomination period ends Friday, Feb. 10 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Respondents that receive at least 100 nominations will be notified in writing and invited to enter the Program.
