Walmart Vicksburg to host Braves Pep Rally Aug. 19

To help promote the 2017 football season, Walmart Vicksburg has partnered with the Alcorn State University Department of Athletics to host a Kick-off Pep Rally Saturday, Aug. 19 from noon-2 p.m. at 2150 Iowa Blvd., Vicksburg, MS.

“We’d like to thank Walmart for sponsoring this great event. Alcorn has one of its largest fan bases in Vicksburg and we want to show our appreciation to the community before the games kick-off,” said Derek Horne, director of athletics. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our fans and alumni to support the Braves and purchase brand new gear featured at Walmart. We look forward to hosting more events and working closely with Walmart Vicksburg in the future.”

The Braves will be in full attendance as they bring the band, cheerleaders, Golden Girls and more to showcase the excellence of the university. The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite marching band will be on display showcasing their world-renowned showmanship and providing entertainment for store patrons.

Inside, Walmart has worked with the university to expand its selection of merchandise with a section totally dedicated to Alcorn and will be raffling off two gift baskets of exclusive Alcorn gear that fans can only purchase at Walmart Vicksburg.

“Alcorn State University is excited to extend our relationship with Walmart Vicksburg. This pep rally and community event is intended to celebrate the upcoming achievements of our student athletes for the 2017-18 year,” said Jason Cable, assistant vice president for athletic compliance and academic services. “Additionally, this event will provide a platform for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to meet the Braves and shop at Walmart for newly released Braves merchandise.”

Football season tickets will be on sale. Furthermore, Alcorn Football Media Guides can be purchased for $25, which includes 2017 team information and a full historical section with year-by-year schedules, an all-time roster, record book and more.

Alcorn opens the 2017 football season at home Saturday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m., at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.
