Alphas collect donations for the less fortunate during their annual charity initiative

The Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Alcorn State University hosted their annual charity initiative, DK Goes Homeless, Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the campus union, plaza and cafeteria area.

Each year, the fraternity leaves their dorms to sleep outside for one night in an effort to receive donations in the form of clothing, toiletries, shoes, and money that will be donated to the nearest homeless shelters.

The organization took this event so seriously, that they wouldn’t eat or drink anything unless some of their peers brought food and drink to them.

“We felt like this was the best thing to do to give
back what we can to the homeless. Having to stay outside may not sound fun, but it’s for a worthy cause,” said Jeff Fisher, a senior.

Junior Aaron Winters shared his beliefs on helping others in their times of need.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive. Being a cheerful giver and helping those in need is the epitome of being a man of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.”
