Due to unexpected delays in the renovations for Robinson and Burrus Halls, Alcorn State University will temporarily relocate over 100 upperclassmen students to the Natchez campus and Magnolia Bluffs Casino Hotel in Natchez, Miss., from August through December 2025.
The University has entered into a lease agreement with Magnolia Bluffs Casino, LLC.
The hotel is not located on the same property as the casino. It is approximately 1.1 miles away from the casino. There are no gaming activities on the hotel grounds.
“This temporary housing arrangement helps students maintain uninterrupted access to their education while campus housing undergoes much needed improvements,” said Dr. Edward Rice, vice president for student affairs. “We appreciate the patience of our students and their parents during this process.”
The safety and academic success of our students remain our top priorities as we make this transition.
Alcorn will provide shuttle services to transport students between the Natchez locations and the main campus in Lorman.
Academic accommodations and disability services for students will remain in place during the temporary relocation. Students will continue to have access to library resources, tutoring services, and collaborative learning opportunities both in-person and virtually.
The University will maintain 24/7staffing at the hotel location, with residence life personnel available around the clock to assist students.
Security measures include both university housing and campus police staff and hotel security personnel on-site, along with the Natchez Police Department available for extreme emergency situations.
Students will continue to have access to campus health services, virtual mental health support, and on-campus counseling, as needed.
To maintain campus community and student engagement, the University has planned various social activities including monthly movie nights in the student lounge and an optional Sunday service and speaker series.
These programs are designed to foster continued student connection and support during the temporary relocation period.
Tuition and fees will remain unchanged during the temporary housing period.
