New campus salon, LeChoix Beauty Empire, promises to bring style and excellence to Alcorn

Alcorn State University's newest venture will expand its services to students, faculty, and staff with the addition of a campus beauty salon and barbershop.

LeChoix Beauty Empire, located in the Dorothy Gray Home Management Building next to the J. D. Boyd Library is now open for business. The salon is slated to have its grand opening Monday, Sept. 10.

Patrons looking to enhance their look can expect quality services from licensed barbers and beauticians that include haircuts, beard treatments, eyebrow and eyelash care, perms, relaxers, braids, dreadlocks, and much more. The salon also sells hair care essentials, beauty supplies, and hair.

Returning to serve the Alcorn community seemed inevitable for Twyla Graise, owner of LeChoix Beauty Empire and a Lorman, Mississippi native. She spent her childhood on Alcorn's campus, where her parents, and later some of her siblings, served as employees. The partnership is one that Graise holds near to her heart.

"Alcorn is like home for me," said Graise. "I am blessed to be able to contract with Alcorn; I feel that God brought me back here. I've had visions of being here to encourage the students by speaking life into them and helping them to become their best."

Besides running a successful business, Graise's hopes to be a positive influence on her clientele. Her goal is to provide knowledge that would aid customers in maintaining healthy hair.

"Customers can expect excellence, encouragement, top of the line hair care, and a wealth of knowledge that we will use to educate others. We care about our clients, so we are here to teach them how to take good care of their hair. Our goal is to educate and beautify."

Providing opportunities for students is also on Graise's to-do list.

"I look forward to bringing in students to help with our services. The opportunity would help them to make money while teaching them how to conduct themselves in a professional setting."

Graise is currently searching for barbers, hair stylists, braiders, and shampoo washers to join her team. Interested barbers and hairstylist must be licensed to pursue employment at the salon. Braiders and shampoo washers are not required to have a license.
