Weir appointed to Natchez-Adams School District Board of Education

An administrator at Alcorn State University has been selected to serve on a local school board.

LLJuna Weir, who serves as director of Educational Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity, is the newest member of the Natchez-Adams School District Board of Education. In late February, Weir was unanimously voted onto the school board and was appointed to her position by Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson and the Board of Alderman.

Weir is excited to serve on her hometown’s school board.

“I am ecstatic to work with a group of people that I have admired for years,” said Weir. “If it weren’t for the Natchez-Adams School District, I wouldn’t be who or where I am today.”

Some of Weir’s plans include strengthening the school board’s relationship with Alcorn and understanding the needs of students and parents.

“I plan to use my expertise as an administrator to build a better relationship between the district and Alcorn. I want to talk to parents and students to determine their needs and expectations from the board and me. Then, I want to start working on making our school district one of the top districts in Mississippi.”

This role further proves Weir’s purpose of serving others.

“Because my mom and aunt are retired educators, I grew up around teachers who not only taught students but also, they nurtured children. I’ve volunteered with different schools in the district, so serving on the board was an easy decision because my parents instilled in me the importance of giving back. Giving back is one of my purposes in life. God has blessed me to pay it forward.”
