J. D. Boyd Library offers new book scholarship to students at Alcorn

The J. D. Boyd Library at Alcorn State University is lending its support to students with a new scholarship.

The library recently started the Friends of the Library Scholarship for students at Alcorn. The award is a $300 book scholarship to enhance and support the academic achievements of the recipients.

Dr. Blanche Sanders, dean of University Libraries, looks forward to seeing the impact the scholarship will have on students.

"It has been a privilege for our library to sponsor this scholarship," said Sanders. "It motivates our department to focus on advancing our services to the community and empowering students."

Starting a scholarship endowment is the library's way of reaching out to support students. Sanders hopes their efforts draw more students to the resources that the library has to offer.

"We intend to empower students with additional resources that will enhance their academic successes and establish confidence in the support system that our library has available."

The scholarship inspires Sanders and her staff to implement more initiatives that would benefit students in the future.

"The scholarship has fostered an environment that prompts our staff to have stimulating discussions about additional future initiatives that we can explore and offer students."

Library officials hope to increase the amount of the scholarship to $500 next school year. For more information about the scholarship, contact  [email protected].
